A Nigerian Man (Abiodun Victor Olawunmi) Has Reportedly Passed Away While in Police Custody in South Africa.

Tragically, a Nigerian man named Abiodun Victor Olawunmi lost his life while in the custody of the South African Police Service in Johannesburg.

The circumstances surrounding this incident are still unclear at the moment. However, Edward Sunday, a Nigerian resident in Sandton, Gauteng, from Oyo State, claims that Olawunmi was suffocated.

According to reports, the police apprehended Olawunmi on Saturday, July 15, 2023, during a raid led by Minister of Police Bheki Cele in Johannesburg Central and its nearby areas.

Upon hearing about his arrest, his brothers immediately started making arrangements to visit him at the police station.

Sadly, they received a devastating call from an officer informing them about Abiodun's tragic passing.

When Abiodun's brothers arrived at the Johannesburg Central Police Station hoping to see him alive and well, they were confronted with the heart-wrenching sight of his lifeless body in the parking lot.

In response to this unfortunate event, Nigerian nationals have taken to the streets in protest. Photos posted on a Facebook page dedicated to Nigerians residing in South Africa capture these demonstrations as they demand justice for Olawunmi's death.
