Angry mob set ablaze suspected Bayelsa PoS robbers

Two suspected robbers were, on Thursday, burnt to death by an angry mob in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

It was gathered that the young men met their end after allegedly robbing some Point of Sale operators at gunpoint at the Green Villa junction, Isaac Boro Expressway, in the Biogbolo-Epie area of the state capital.

They were said to have been set ablaze together with the vehicle they used for the robbery.

The identities of the two male adults could not be ascertained.

An eyewitness, who gave his name simply as Oyinkuro, said the suspects were trying to escape when they were caught and lynched at the Green Villa junction on the Isaac Boro Expressway.

He said, “They just came to Green Villa and they started robbing some of the PoS outlets there.

“So people started shouting ‘thief o, thief o’. Many residents came, and pursued them, caught up with them and set them ablaze.”

The state police command condemned the mob action, which led to the death of the suspects.

The spokesman for the command, Mr Asinim Butswat, said, “The Commissioner of Police, Mr Uche Anozia, has ordered an investigation and those responsible for the act will be arrested and prosecuted.”
