2023: God should give me the grace to handover quietly to whoever succeed me — Buhari

By Eric Patrick

President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressive Congress (APC)  has said that he will ensure that 2023 general elections will be free and fair.

According to him, as a beneficiary of a free and fair election in the country he will make sure election rigging will be erase in Nigeria.

Our correspondent (Eric Patrick) gathered that the President made this statement in a conclave with members of the legal team for the 2019 presidential election petition on Thursday in Abuja.

Buhari, recalled that the turnout of Nigerians during his presidential campaigns to the 36 states of the Federation in 2019 convinced him that he is a man of integrity.

My re-election was not a fluke because I recall the massive turnout of Nigerians during my 2019 presidential campaigns to the 36 States of the Federation,  Buhari said.

‘‘The number of people that turned out for me across the country was more than anybody can buy or force.

‘‘According to Buhari, the massive turnout gave him so much confidence that he has already won.

"Nobody would say 2019 presidential election was not free and fair or was rigged because the votes of Nigerians prove that they really wanted me back," Buhari added.

‘‘That is why I insist that elections must be free and fair because I am a clear successor to a free and fair election,’’ he said.

‘‘I swore by the Holy Book and made promises to Nigerians that I will abide by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

‘‘I hope that by 2023, I can handover quietly to whoever succeeds me and I wish him the best of luck,’’ he said.
