Suspended Nigerian Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele has arrived at the Federal Court of Lagos to face two charges of illegal possession of arms and ammunition.
Emefiele was suspended immediately by President Bola Tinub on June 10, citing continued investigations into his post and proposed reforms in the economic and financial sectors.
The State Department had charged him to court for unauthorized possession of a single-barreled shotgun (Jojeph Magnum 8371) and 23 rounds of live ammunition (cartridges), which violated Section 8 of the Firearms Act and is punishable under Section 27(1)(b)(il) of the Act.
Emefiele was led into court on Tuesday by a woman.
