Chief Magistrate Ogeh Elkanah of Rivers State family court has remanded the resident Pastor of Glorious Covenant Church, Pastor Piller Erekwa to Port Harcourt correctional centre for s3xually abusing a 15-year-old girl in Emohua council of Rivers State.

The Pastor was remanded to the correctional Centre in Port Harcourt pending his sentencing on July 19, 2023.

The accused, who is a father of 6, yesterday pleaded guilty to one count of s3xual abuse preferred against him by the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) at the Magistrate Court 1, in Port Harcourt.

A charge which was read to Piller Erekwa stated that the pastor s3xually abused a fifteen-year-old girl in Mgbuola village in Ndele between December 2022 and January 2023 thereby committing an offence punishable by law of Rivers State.

Magistrate Ogeh Elkanah adjourned the matter to 19, July 2023 for facts and sentencing.

Recall that Pastor Erekwa was arrested last week Thursday at Ndele by Rumuji Police Division and later transferred to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation.

In the meantime, the National Coordinator of the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, Prince Wiro commended the Police for the arraignment of the suspect in court.

Mr Wiro equally commended the family of the rape survivor for not bowing to pressure to settle the case out of court.
