Cristiano Ronaldo has been breaking records for years, and even at 38, he is still breaking records even as he enters the twilight of his career.
The Al-Nassr striker has earned another Guinness World Records title for the highest earnings for an athlete in 2023.
The 38-year-old reportedly made a staggering $136 million in the 12 months leading up to May 1, 2023. This is the first time the Portugal legend is topping the list.
He has dislodged his long-time rival, Lionel Messi. The 2022 World Cup winner with Argentina was the highest-paid athlete in the world in 2022, with estimated earnings of $130 million, according to the Guinness World Records.
Ronaldo, who recently made a blockbuster move to Saudi Arabia, made $46 million on the pitch and $90 million off the pitch. The off-field earnings include sponsorship deals, appearance fees, memorabilia, and endorsements.
Kylian Mbappe came third with $120 million. NBA superstar LeBron James was fourth with an estimated earnings of $119 million, while boxer Canelo Alvarez was the highest earner in boxing with $110 million.
Moreover, stars Serena Williams and Roger Federer were the highest-earning tennis players despite retiring in 2022. Federer earned a total of $95.1 million, while Williams earned $45.3 million.
