Nigeria born talent Victor Osimhen, wins the prestigious award

Victor Osimhen of Nigeria won the prestigious Ghana Football Awards' Best African International Player award in a surprise upset, according to Soccernet. ng. In an extremely competitive race for the prized award, Osimhen outperformed prominent rivals including Mohamed Salah, Riyad Mahrez, and Yassine Bounou.

With this outstanding accomplishment, the Napoli striker wins the prize for the first time, solidifying his place in history as the first Nigerian to do so. Osimhen's success can be credited to his outstanding play in the 2023–24 season, during which he was a crucial part of Napoli's successful Scudetto campaign, which won the championship for the first time in more than three decades. His extraordinary ability to score goals led him to an astounding total of 26 league goals.

Osimhen's talents also helped Napoli reach new heights as they made history by becoming the first team in the club's illustrious history to get to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League. Notably, he displayed his talent and dexterity both domestically and abroad.

Nigeria's charge was led by Osimhen, who scored a brace in their 3-2 victory over Sierra Leone in Monrovia to secure their spot in the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which will get underway in Ivory Coast in January. With seven goals, Osimhen is the leading scorer in the AFCON-qualifying campaign.

The Super Eagles attacker received more votes than players like Mohamed Salah of Liverpool, Riyad Mahrez of Manchester City, and Yassine Bounou of Morocco during the Ghana Football Awards presentation.
