The new coronavirus outbreak can now be characterised as a pandemic, the head of the World Health Organisation said Wednesday.
“COVID-19 can be characterised as a pandemic,” WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told reporters in Geneva.
Tedros, made this statement on the WHO verified Twitter account @WHO.
According to the Tedros, "we’re in this together, to do the right things with calm and protect the citizens of the world. It’s doable," he said.
"The doctor advices all countries must strike a fine balance between protecting health, minimizing economic and social disruption and respecting human rights."
“We have never before seen a pandemic sparked by a coronavirus.”
He said the spread and severity of the deadly new coronavirus, which has infected more than 110,000 people and killed more than 4,000, is “alarming”.
Some countries are struggling with a lack of capacity. Some countries are struggling with a lack of resources. Some countries are struggling with a lack of resolve.”
