‘Ghost' Okada Riders will be severely punished-Union

Cindy Alo

Nagari Nakowa Motorcycles Owners and Riders Association of Lagos, NNAMORAL, an affiliate of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, has warned unregistered operators using the Union as a means for creating havoc in the society to desist from the act.

This is coming against the backdrops of incessant complaints from individuals in Lagos State over reckless driving among commercial bike riders popularly referred to as ‘Okada riders.’

Speaking to newsmen during a rally in Otto Awori Local Council Development Area, LCDA, in Lagos, the Chairman of the association, Alhaji Suleiman Raji, said: “Transport Union members including Okada riders in the state are responsible people with a focus for national development.

“Perpetrators of such acts both within and outside the metropolis of Lagos State will be severely punished.

“Thuggery and hooliganism have been overridden by the professionalism and human development in transport union in the present days, therefore, those hiding under the union to do bad acts must desist from doing so or henceforth face the wrath of the law.

“Most behaviours associated with the ghost operators include armed robbery attacks, violation of traffic laws, reckless driving amongst others.

“The transport union members of today have created a niche for themselves to influence government policy and decisions for mass development.”

He also urged genuine operators to maintain the law of the State in the course of their daily operations.
